Obituary of Stefan K. Stachowski

Just shy of his 96th birthday,  Stefan Stachowski , or Steve as his friends and family called him, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2018. Born in Gorzyn Poland in 1922, he came to America in 1939, when war was declared in Poland and the ocean liner he worked on was granted asylum in NY.  Steve became a US citizen, a decorated member of the US Navy, a disabled WWII veteran, and lifetime resident of Yonkers, NY, for 78 years. He was an active member of the DAV chapter in Yonkers, and was a retired employee of the US Postal Service, Main St. Post office in the Getty Square section of Yonkers.

Steve was married to the late Julia Kolton Stachowski  in 1944 for close to 72 years . He was father to their three daughters and their families, Julie and the late Ruben, Stefanie and her husband Steven, and Donna and her family.  He was Tata to his grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Michael, Monica, Andrew, and Pamela; and also beloved Tata to his five great-grandchildren,  Zachary, Whitney, Kayleigh, Lindsay and Sydney.  He will always be remembered for his love of family gatherings and attempted joke telling and dancing all night at weddings and occasions.

A proud American USN veteran, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors foundation, the DAV  or a Veterans’ organization of your choice that services veterans in need.
