Jim was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School, class of 1966 and Manhattan College, class of 1970.  At both schools Jim ran on the track teams. He was a captain of the team his senior year at Manhattan. Track continued to be an important part of his life for the rest of his life.

Jim taught briefly in the Yonkers Public Schools before moving to the Rye City School District in 1975 where he taught until 2008.  He was a middle school and high school health and physical education teacher. While he was enthusiastic about his teaching, his true passion was on the track.  He coached and inspired hundreds of athletes throughout his career. Jim was so dedicated to his passion that he continued to coach despite his illness and even gave coaching instructions from his hospital bed a few hours before his untimely death.

Jim loved to garden, golf, and travel, especially to a casino!

He was known for his honesty, witty humor, dedication to his family and a true love of life.  He loved God and his family and had an eternally optimistic point of view. He approached his cancer diagnosis fully believing he would overcome this disease and continue to live life to its fullest.
