Biography

Sister Helen Marie Horton, formerly Sr. Mary Liguori, beloved member of the Sisters of Charity, Convent of Mary the Queen, died Sunday, January 8, 2012.

She is survived by her sister-in-laws Pat, Joan and Jane Horton, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Chauncey and Helen and by her brothers, Chance, Gerard, Ernest, Donald and Rodney.

Reposing at the Convent of Mary the Queen, 35 Vark Street, Yonkers, NY on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the convent. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.

Sr. Liguori taught me 2nd Grade at St. Raymond School, Bronx. She was one of the biggest inspirations of my life. Years later, I wrote a hymn to Mother Seton and dedicated it to Sister, and traveled from Illinois to NY to present it to her. She sang along as we played the piano. What a wonderful and holy person she was.
