Community Service Through Death Education and Aftercare

Philosophy

F. Ruggiero & Sons Funeral Homes accepts responsibility for being involved in the community in which it functions. We view community service as more than philanthropy or social responsibility. We see it as an investment in the future of both the funeral home and the community, and believe that the continual well being of one is linked inseparably to the continued well being of the other.

We recognize that the funeral home cannot address all the bereavement issues of the community. Thus we have designed a thoughtful program of community involvement, which focuses the funeral home's resources in those areas in which we feel we can make a meaningful impact on behalf of the funeral home and the community.

Programs

  1. Continuing Care Program: consists of professionally led bereavement support groups offered as a community service at no charge. These groups offer a supportive environment for those who may have experienced a loss. The program includes an Adult Children of a Deceased Parent Support Group and a Spouse's Support Group. The groups meet at various times throughout the year. Please call the funeral home for further information and scheduling.  Please see the "RESOURCES" section of our website for grief resources and links to several bereavement support organizations and publications.
  2. Family Support Services Program: an information and referral service that insures that any individual whose particular needs cannot be met by the funeral home's support groups will be assisted in finding the appropriate resource to meet their need. We are also available to conduct in-service training and community seminars and support programs.
  3. "We Remember..." Annual Candlelight Memorial Ceremony and Tree Lighting: holiday ceremonies (Bronx and Yonkers) of remembrance and commemoration paying tribute to the life and spirit of deceased relatives, friends and loved ones. These events are held each December in an outdoor canopy with participants decorating the holiday tree with personalized ornaments. Please consult our "EVENTS CALENDAR" or call the funeral home for specific dates and times.
  4. Consumer Advocacy Services Program: enables the community to ask questions about funeral arrangements and funeral pre-planning, bereavement airline fares, Social Security and Medicare benefits, Medicaid requirements, funeral home pricing, cremations, and the shipping of remains overseas. Regardless of where your funeral arrangements are made, this consultation service is available at no charge.
